Welcome to new Team Members!

We are delighted to formally welcome Lily, Laura and Martha to the Borough team!

Lily and Martha actually joined the practice at the beginning of the year as Trainee Dental Nurses. Both are excelling on their course and in their practical work and are well on their way to becoming exceptional dental nurses. Meanwhile, Laura (centre above), who has just joined us in September, is a very experienced dental nurse, having worked in the Salisbury area for many years. We are incredibly blessed to have such a lovely nurse team!

Anna Smith

Likewise, we are very sad to lose three members of the team this year too, starting with our hygienist, Anna Smith, earlier in the Spring. Anna had been with the practice for a few years and was a very popular member of the team. However, Anna’s partner, Joe, finished his PHD at Southampton University and landed a brilliant job with Rolls-Royce in Derbyshire, necessitating a move north for both of them. Anna says:-

‘I’m so sad to have left The Borough! It honestly was the best practice I’ve ever worked in, and I’m missing the wonderful team and all of my lovely patients enormously.

I feel so lucky to have spent the last few years getting to know so many of you. Thank you for all the lovely chats, laughs, stories and, of course, for trusting me with your teeth! You’ve made my time at The Borough so special, and it really won’t be the same not seeing all your familiar faces.

I wish everyone at The Borough the very best for the future. Please look after yourselves (and each other!) — and most importantly, keep up those Tepes!’

Hannah Craine

Dentist Hannah Craine is no longer working at The Borough Dental Practice. Hannah has been a valued member of the team for over five years. Hannah would like to thank the patients she has cared for, for the trust they placed in her and for the privilege of providing their dental care during her time at the Practice.

The Practice thanks Hannah for the care and contribution she has provided since joining in March 2021 and wishes her all the very best for the future.

Gabby Wilson

Finally, we are sad to be saying goodbye to dental nurse, Gabby Wilson, who has decided to go to University to study to become a hospital radiologist. Gabby brought a lovely, upbeat manner to the practice. We wish her good her luck in her new career. Gabby may well do occasional locuming for us during her studies so you may still see her!

New Babies!

Our team have been blessed with two babies this year!

The lovely Maleah was born on 3^rd May to Tash and partner Charlie, weighing in at 6lb 9oz. Mum and daughter are well and enjoyed a great summer with big sister Rosie!

And then later in the summer, the wonderful Marley was born to Jordan and partner Sean on 16^th August. Marley and Jordan are doing brilliantly – the summer hot weather more enjoyable with Marley on the outside rather than the in! We hope to welcome Tash and Jordan back to the Practice in 2027.

Borough Athletic Endeavours!

On reaching ½ a century this year, Practice Owners Luke and Jenny set themselves the challenge of a ½ ironman distance triathlon – a 1.2 mile lake swim, a 56-mile cycle topped off by a half-marathon! On 6^th September, they completed the New Forest event, crossing the line in…. a very slow time (but not last!)! However, they thoroughly enjoyed the training and challenge and were raising money for the amazing Ugandan charity, Musana. Luke and Jenny’s effort paled in comparison to the Practice’s regular ‘iron’ woman and implantologist, Rachel Evans! On one of the hottest weekends of the year, Rachel, twin sister Rebecca and husband Andy ran a mind-boggling 100 kilometres from London to Brighton!

Whilst most complete the famous/traditional route in an old car, motorbike or possibly bicycle, Rachel and husband Andy completed the 100 kilometre course on foot, including over the South Downs! They were raising money for Dentaid, for whom Andy is Chief Executive. And later in the summer, Andy was awarded a Fellowship Ad Hominem from The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in recognition of his and Dentaid’s outstanding work revolutionising dental care for the homeless across the United Kingdom. Well done Andy (and Rachel!)

After retiring in 2025 after a collective 15+ years at the Practice and a further 50 years of practicing dentistry in the locality, we thought Richard and Charlie’s past patients might like to get an update!

Richard says:-

“Retirement was never an easy decision after over 40 years in dentistry and after being part of such a wonderful dental practice for the last 10 years of my career.

Many patients warned me that retirement would leave a hole and leave me unfulfilled; and this is true. I do miss all of the daily interactions with colleagues and patients; hearing about what has been happening in their lives and with their families. Meeting, interacting and helping so many people in one day is valued so much more from the perspective of retirement.

But retirement also gave time for new opportunities -a new chapter- particularly with my wife Mandy who retired at the same time as me at the end of 2025. Since then we have tried to make the most of our additional free time. 

Conquering Mont Venteux with son Will

Earlier in the year we visited the fascinating and beautiful islands of New Zealand – hiking, watching whales and wildlife and visiting some of the numerous vineyards.

We enjoyed walking the beautiful 100 mile Cotswold Way in the spring and plan to walk as many of the footpaths and trails of the UK before our joints protest!

To stop my brain shrivelling, I have begun group French lessons – so far, so Greek – but I might be able to order a few croissants next time I visit France.

Fortunately, I can now follow dentistry vicariously through my son, John, who graduated in dentistry this summer- a proud day for Mandy and myself.  John recently began his career as a dentist in South Wales.

I will occasionally be returning to The Borough Dental Practice, but now only as a patient. So keep an eye out for me and do say hello!”

Charlie meanwhile says:-

Charlie with new campervan!

“Unlike Richard, my retirement wasn’t entirely planned (forced by arthritis in my thumb joint) and indeed, I was rather terrified by the prospect! However, I have actually thoroughly enjoyed having so much more time to pursue other interests. I purchased a campervan when I retired and have had some wonderful times exploring the UK, including in Northern Ireland with my partner Kate, and also a memorable summer holiday in the Loire Valley sampling local wines.

I have kept up my off-piste adventure skiing, and have also found time to sail around the Channel Islands, even hosting Richard at one point!

I do certainly miss the company of former colleagues and patients though but am keeping busy when at home in Salisbury playing pickleball – I have become a total addict!”

And finally!

Many patients have been enquiring after Liv, Jenny and Luke’s daughter, who was working as a dental nurse at the Practice the last couple of years. After qualifying, Liv spent three months in Africa during the summer, starting as an intern with the charity, Musana, in Uganda where she got to use her skills as a dental nurse in one of the Musana dental clinics. She also got a broad experience across Musana’s schools and hospitals, and even helped deliver a baby by caesarian in the maternity unit.

After Uganda, she spent a further month in Madagascar working with a marine conservation charity. She is now working for Salisbury diocese in a media role, but no doubt will help out occasionally in the dental practice!
